Contrave and Empatic Offer Promise for Weight Loss

Contrave is bupropion SR plus  naltrexone SR and   Empatic (formerly excalia) is bupropion SR plus zonisamide. Contrave is in  phase III trials and Excalia is in phase II trials.

During a 24 week phase II trial patients taking Contrive lost and average of 7.52% while patents taking the placebo lost 1.03% of body weight. In another trial Patients taking Excalia lost on average 9.2% of their weight from baseline using compared to an average of 0.4% taking the placebo. The Empatic trial was continued for a  further 24 week open-label period achieving an average weight loss of 12% from baseline by 48 weeks.

New Dutasteride Study on Hair Loss

The Journal of cosmetic dermatology reported on a study on Dutasteride as a treatment to Male Pattern Hair Loss. The study conducted on pairs of identical twins showed that  dutasteride has positive effects on haircounts. 16 of the 17 twins sets correctly identified their tratment by month 6.
